What is a VO2 test?
A VO2 test measures the amount of oxygen your body uses at different exertion levels while you exercise on a bike or treadmill. You breathe through a mask during a short workout.
The recorded information is then used to calculate your target intensity zones and give you the specific heart rate required for each level of intensity.
What are the Benefits?
With test results, you can be prescribed a diet based on the best source of fuel for your body and the correct calories you need for exercise. Vo2 testing allows you to take the target heart rate treatment to the next level to get the results you want from your workouts, whether it is fat loss, muscle increase, or core performance. It is recommended to get the test at the baseline, when starting the program and every 3-6 months thereafter to assessthe efficacy of your routine. Target Intensity zones will maximize your workout with fewer injuries, less fatigue, less pain, and rapid results!
What is the cost?
The cost is billed to your health insurance where your individual policy terms apply. If there is no health insurance or it is "patient responsibility" due to the deductible or other factor, the out-of-pocket cost is approximately $165. Aetna does not cover VO2 testing.
